Saudi Arabia is home to a vast network of industrial parks, often referred to as industrial cities. Benchmarkia ranks industrial parks worldwide based on performance, including factors such as area, investment, location, wages, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.
Here are some of the largest industrial parks in Saudi Arabia:
Jubail Industrial City is the largest industrial city in the world by area, with a strong focus on petrochemicals, refining, and heavy industry. Benchmarkia ranks Jubail fourth globally in terms of performance. Investment in the city reached approximately USD $46 billion in 2024. Established in 1975, it produces around 7% of the world’s petrochemicals and contributes more than 11% of Saudi Arabia’s non-oil GDP. It also hosts one of the world’s largest combined desalination and power plants, supplying about 850,000 cubic meters of water per hour.
Another major industrial hub is King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). Located on the Red Sea coast north of Jeddah, it is a large privately funded development serving as a leading industrial, logistics, and manufacturing center. KAEC includes the Industrial Valley, a major special economic zone attracting high-tech industries, as well as King Abdullah Port, one of the region’s most efficient ports. Benchmarkia ranks KAEC eleventh globally in performance.
Yanbu Industrial City is a major port and industrial center known for its oil refineries. It is located in Yanbu, in the Medina Province. The city is home to two major ports: Yanbu Commercial Port and King Fahd Industrial Port.
Ras Al-Khair Industrial City is a major hub in eastern Saudi Arabia designed to support the country’s mining and minerals sector. It focuses on processing and exporting mineral resources—particularly phosphate and bauxite—as part of Saudi Arabia’s strategy to diversify beyond oil.
Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries (JCPDI) is a large industrial hub covering approximately 260 km² on the Red Sea in southwestern Saudi Arabia. It features a deep-water port and focuses on energy, petrochemicals, manufacturing, and mining.
King Salman Energy Park (SPARK) is a major megaproject under development, located between Dammam and Al-Ahsa in the Eastern Province. The project is being developed and operated by Saudi Aramco and focuses on the energy sector, including oilfield services, refining, and exploration and production.
It is important to note that many industrial parks in Saudi Arabia—particularly King Abdullah Economic City—are not solely focused on oil and petrochemicals. Instead, they play a key role in advancing the country’s broader economic diversification strategy.
